Why I'm so good at this:

I was born a lover of written words and spent much of my childhood with my nose in a book or a pencil in my hand. I especially loved mysteries and writing poetry. That was, until I learned that other people have opinions about me and my writing and sometimes that hurts. I also learned that it was easier for me to avoid feeling big feelings if I avoided ways of expressing them. Pouring my heart into a poem meant that I had to face what came up, and sometimes that hurts too.

For more than 2 decades I was a writer who didn’t write. I constantly felt and yet chose to ignore the call to find myself on my pages. I was afraid to let my creative light shine. Parts of me always knew that this extended period of creative dormancy was temporary. They were the ones who nudged me to buy a used copy of The Artist’s Way when my mom pointed it out in a thrift store one day and explained what it was all about. That book held a position of prime real estate on my bookshelf for more than a decade. And then, in early 2023 I heard the call loud and clear “Now is the time!”.

After years of skillfully numbing my feelings and suppressing my creative urges, I hit a breaking point and discovered some important truths about myself. I genuinely love who I am and I've cultivates a strong internal friendship with myself. Years of practicing mindfulness and meditation had prepared me to navigate this challenging chapter. I was aware of how I was feeling and I asked for help. I went seeking resources that felt nurturing and nourishing for my body, spirit, and mind.

Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way has played a pivotal role my journey. It provided the structure I needed to navigate a way back to my creative self while opening avenues of playful exploration that breathed new life into my world.

I completed all 12 weeks by creating and hosting a community that provided the support and accountability I needed. Being part of a group where everyone was on a similar journey made me more accountable to myself and others. A few months later, I facilitated another 12-week Artist’s Way group, and noticed that the women who engaged consistently with the community were more likely to successfully complete the course.

It lights me up to share the Artist’s Way experience with other women ready to commit to 12 weeks of self-discovery through creative practices. Our journeys are enriched when we celebrate our progress together in the comfort and safety of our community. I know what awaits you, my fellow recovering creatives—insights, awareness, and clearer alignment with your life. It's really, really good!

If this is a journey you'd like to take, I'd love to be along for the ride with you!
